About Citizens’ Commission for Human Development (CCHD)

Citizens’ Commission for Human Development (CCHD), a national level Non-Governmental Organization was founded in 1986. The organization was subsequently registered in 1989 with the Social Welfare Directorate, Government of the Punjab, under the Voluntary Social Welfare Agency’s (Registration and Control) Ordinance, 1961.

CCHD applies participatory development approach as a process which involves participation of men and women at the community levels through the four key elements.

  • Building knowledge; awareness raising and provision of information.
  • Empowerment; group identification, capacity development, and provision of information.
  • Participation; actual involvement of the target groups and stakeholders in formulation, implementation and monitoring of activities.
  • Models are built for escalating snow ball effect and later efforts are placed for its large scale replication
CCHD works in close collaboration with local communities, policy makers, elected representatives, local organizations and government officials. We have strong linkages with local governments, research institutions, think tanks, women groups, press clubs, bar associations, teachers associations, labor and trade unions, Radio and TV entities, and private sector.
CCHD focuses on four thematic areas: Democratic Governance (governance, political education, legislative strengthening, women’s political empowerment and young voters), Human Rights and Peace (women’s human rights, legal aid and advice, gender based violence), Humanitarian Assistance (direct services, rapid protection assessment and protection services) and Community Development (non formal basic education-primary level, health).
CCHD has successfully closed down several projects and has experience of working with various donor agencies.

CCHD has been partnered with the UNDP, UNHCR, UNIFEM, UNDEF, UNICEF, USAID, UNODC, EU, DFID, CIDA, ADB, HBS, AusAID, TAF, IFES, Concern Worldwide and Government of Pakistan, etc.
